(KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals announced some tough news on Tuesday that ace Jack Flaherty will not be pitching for what seems like a good amount of time with a "significant" injury. The MLB leader in wins left Monday's start due to left side tightness.
After the game, Flaherty was positive. But the news today from manager Mike Shildt is anything but.
"It's not a minimal situation. It's a real strain, tear. I don't know which grade (they) want to call it. It's significant that Jack is going to miss some time," Shildt told media before Tuesday's game. "And it's going to be awhile. We're still in the exploratory stage to determine how long."
Flaherty has been placed on the 10-day injured list and Johan Oviedo has been recalled to take his place. The 23-year-old may be starting Saturday's game in Flaherty's place.
The Cardinals say Flaherty had some scans taken on Tuesday and they haven't yet seen the results.
