ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals announced Friday morning that they have signed infielder José Rondón to a deal that improves the organization's depth at multiple positions.

The 27-year-old, Venezuelan born player has appeared in 106 MLB games since 2016 with the San Diego Padres, Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles. He's played mostly at shortstop, but has experience has all four infield positions and left field.

He’s a career .201 hitter with nine homers in just under 300 at bats.

The signing comes after the Cardinals decided to not pick up the option on second baseman and two-time Gold Glove winner Kolten Wong.
