ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - All season long the St. Louis Cardinals will be honoring local heroes who provided essential services during the coronavirus pandemic. The team will provide tickets to host those heroes and honor them during games.
At the home opener on Thursday, the Cardinals will launch the "Frontline Fans" program for the 2021 season in conjunction with MLB’s initiative to provide $1.5 million worth of baseball tickets to local heroes who sustained our communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first honorees will be a group of healthcare workers from St. Elizabeth Hospital in O’Fallon, Ill.
Also at Thursday's game, the National Anthem will be performed by Dr. Shephali Wulff, an infectious disease specialist with SSM Health in St. Louis.
The Cardinals will provide complimentary tickets to every Monday-Thursday home game to frontline and essential workers whose roles were crucial in supporting society during health-related shutdowns.
The team is working with local partners to identify and distribute tickets to other groups of deserving individuals.
