ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Back in the leadoff spot for the St. Louis Cardinals, second baseman Tommy Edman was named the National League Player of the Week by Major League Baseball.

This is the first time in Edman's career that he has earned the honor.

In the past week, the 26-year-old batted .462 (12-for-26) with seven runs, two homers, 10 RBIs and two stolen bases. The Cardinals were 3-3 in that span, facing the Detroit Tigers and Pittsburg Pirates.

Edman now leads the National League in doubles (35) and is fourth in steals (21).

He had RBIs in each of the final four games of the week, including a three-RBI effort in a Cardinals victory over the Pirates on Friday. It was just his third game with at least three runs batted in this season.
