(KMOX) - St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Shildt says he's received a good amount of support for his viral rant about Major League Baseball's issue in policing foreign substances on baseballs. The comments after being ejected in Wednesday's game haven't gotten him fined yet – as he noted may happen – but he's still waiting to hear back from the league.
He was asked about the five-minute statement he gave before Thursday's game in Arizona and said he was glad to have finally gotten those things off his chest. He also was reassured by the support he's received since.
"There was a fair amount of people in the industry that reached out that thought they were appropriate remarks and encouraged, and supportive," Shildt says. "So that was good, that was nice."
He says he was texting with the commissioner's office but hasn't heard back on if he'll be punished for his comments.
"I do feel like I said what was on my heart and the situation provided itself and I took advantage of the opportunity to express some thoughts and stand behind them," Shildt says.
The hat of Cardinals pitcher Giovanny Gallegos, that was confiscated at the request of umpire Dan Bellino, is now headed to MLB's headquarter in New York. It will be tested to determine what the smudge was on the brim – which Shildt believes was nothing more than sweat, rosin and sunscreen.
