(KMOX) - On what became an incredible night for his best friend in baseball, Yadier Molina still had himself a pretty special evening in Pittsburgh.
The St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 win on Wednesday was highlighted by Adam Wainwright throwing a "Maddux" – a complete-game shutout with fewer than 100 pitchers. He needed only 88 and you can read all about how amazing that feat is, here:
But Yadi's night was one for the history books as well. First, after the second out of the bottom of first inning was made, Molina supplanted himself in solo fifth place on baseball's all-time innings caught list. Now with a total of 17,377 2/3 innings, he passed Hall of Famer Gary Carter.
Next on the list is Jason Kendall with 17,478 innings.
Then in the sixth inning, Molina got a double that he'd been waiting a long time for. It was the 396th two-bagger of his career and it now ties him for fifth on the all-time doubles list for catchers. It's been 27 games since his previous double.
He's now tied with former Hall of Famer from the Chicago Cubs, Gabby Hartnett.
Molina and Wainwright have now been battery mates in 296 career games. That's good for fourth all-time and they're eyeing former Chicago White Sox battery Red Faber & Ray Schalk (306) for third place.
