ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - For those of you hoping for a final decision about the future of Yadier Molina and Adam Wainwright before the end of the year, you might be in luck. The Cardinals president of baseball operations threw us a Wainwright-like 12-to-6 curveball and briefly discussed the free agents with KMOX's Tom Ackerman. It's a well-known rule among local media that John Mozeliak almost never answers questions about players that are not on his team's roster.

That's why his answer surprised us.

Mozeliak said on Sports on a Sunday Morning just two weeks ago that finding a resolution with both Wainwright and Molina – whether that means new contracts or officially parting ways – was one of his top "priorities" this offseason. He told our Tom Ackerman yesterday that it's still at the top of his list.

And in breaking his own rule, he did talk about the future Cardinal Hall of Famers.

"I think we're getting to a point where we might have some more clarity on that in the near future," Mozeliak says. "But even saying that, there's no guarantee on that.

"I think certainly for us it would be nice to know if we're going to find a way to bring them back or not. So, in an ideal world these things could have already been done or determined, but unfortunatley for all the reasons we've already stated, that's why we are where we are at this point."

We'll leave reading between the lines up to you fans.
