CALLAWAY COUNTY, Mo (KMOX) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol is using the miraculous survival of a woman involved in a highway accident as an example of how seat belts save lives. She was inside a SUV that was rammed into by a tractor-trailer and escaped with only minor injuries.

The incident happened on Interstate 70 in Callaway County around 1 p.m. Wednesday and was one of four separate crashes that involved five tractor-trailers. Authorites shared the above photos on social media with a message:
"Not a believer in the importance of wearing a seatbelt???
The person driving this vehicle not only survived, but her injuries were minor.
Please make sure you ALWAYS buckle up."
The mangled vehicle in the pictures was a 2016 Chevy Equinox driven by Grace Deal, 24, of Columbia, Missouri. Not only did she survive, but she had only minor injuries, police say. She was stopped on the highway due to traffic from a previous accident when the tractor-trailer smashed into the back to her car, sandwiching it between and a Honda Accord and another tractor-trailer in front of that car.
Recent numbers from the Missouri Department of Transportation show 68% of roadway fatalities in the state were someone not wearing a seat belt. Between 2016-2020 there were 1,967 total unbelted fatalities.
