4.0 earthquake hits southern Missouri; Felt in St. Louis, KC areas

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Dozens of people in the St. Louis and Kansas City areas reported feeling some effects of the 4.0 earthquake that hit in southern Missouri Wednesday night. There have been no reports of damage.

It struck around 9 p.m. in Wayne County, near Popular Bluff – which is an area of the New Madrid seismic zone, which is known as one of the most seismically active regions in the US. This map from Earthquake.USGS.gov shows where the quake was felt:

Many people also reported feeling it in Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee.

It was originally reported as a 3.7 earthquake, but then shortly upgraded to a 4.0, which are able to cause some damage, but it's typically minor.
