The suspects were taken into custody in the basement of a partly demolished building about a block away from the crime scene at Martin Luther King Drive and North Sixth Street. The suspects were arrested around 2:30 a.m. after the shooting took place around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

No details were released about the condition of the seven victims, which included a child, or a possible motive.

One witness said he was waiting for a bus with his wife and two children when he heard “boom, boom, boom," according to KMOV-TV. He says his wife was shot in the arm and another bullet nearly struck one of his kids.

“Our backs were turned and the next thing you know they just started shooting and it came at the back of my head and I didn’t know what to do but to get up and run,” Pierce told KMOV.

After the shooting, a vehicle crashed into a MetroLink train near the scene and the people in the car fled, according to Illinois State Police. About 10 train passengers were treated for possible injuries.

“I hope you go to jail for the rest of your life," Pierce said while getting emotional as he described what happened. "You can’t be shooting people up like that, man, get out of here."
