After KMOX host's tweet, crews pick up garbage on St. Louis highway

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Next time you see an excess of trash built up along a road or highway, don't just complain, do something about it. You could help fix the issue by a simple tweet, like KMOX host Charlie Brennan did on Monday.

He spotted multiple piles of garbage along Interstate 170 in Ladue and University. So he tweeted about photos and tagged MoDOT. Within minutes, the organization was working to schedule crews to clean it up.

Brennan gave us an update from the location of the garbage on Tuesday afternoon and saw MoDOT crews "making STL more attractive for residents and visitors alike."

"Seriously, if you see litter and it's not being picked up, send me a photo and we'll get somebody on it," Brennan says. "That's what we're here for folks."

All it took was alerting the Missouri Department of Transportation, and the trash was gone by 1 p.m. the next day.

This isn't the first time the Charlie Brennan Show with Amy Marxkors have worked to solve the trash issues in the area. They've highlighted a street in north St. Louis County that's accumulated mounds of garbage:

They've talked to a Missouri judge who wants to allow convicts to work off their community service sentences by picking up litter:

Some cities are hiring the homeless to pick up trash and paying them with gift cards and other assorted items. Our show has asked the question if a city with combined homelessness and littering issues like St. Louis could do the same.
