ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A 68-year temperature record could be broken on Friday in St. Louis as it's expected to reach 103 degrees.

If that holds true, it would be the hottest June 18 in St. Louis recorded history, set in 1953. The National Weather Service says some areas near St. Louis will have heat index values of up to 105 degrees, which is in the "record-setting territory."

The good news is that on Saturday and Sunday the temps will drop back into the 80s and 90s with some chances for thunder storms on both days.

To stay cool, make sure you're drinking lots of water, avoiding outside activity when possible, never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles and make sure to check on your elderly loved ones.
