A new political action committee, led by former Missouri Congressman and two-time candidate for President Richard Gephardt, says a third-party run from the No Labels campaign would lead to a second term for former President Donald Trump.
"Our worry is, all the available polling indicates that if the race is between Biden and Trump, a third-party candidate; independent bi-partisan candidate; would pull many more votes from Biden than Trump, and would re-elect Donald Trump," says the former House Majority and Minority leader.
Gephardt's group, is a bipartisan organization called Citizens to Save Our Republic.
"This is not about party, or protecting anybody, or favoring anybody for President," says Gephardt. "The people pick the President, but we think having Donald Trump come back would be a disaster for our democracy."
Gephardt says the political scene has changed since he retired from the House in 2003.
"When I was in politics, we really could be bi-partisan," says Gephardt. "My best friend in Congress was (Republican Senator) Bob Dole."
"Now the American people are bitterly divided, so Congress is bitterly divided. So there's a whole lot of reasons for where we are, but I'm an optimist," says Gephardt.
