It looks like a plan to raise St. Louis City water rates about $120 a year for the average residential customer will pass through the Board of Aldermen.

Aldermanic President Megan Green was asked if supporters have the eight votes needed for passage. "I think so," Green tells KMOX, "I think the Director of the water department is making a case about why we need to do some critical investments in our infrastructure."
Alderman Tom Oldenburg says residents are frustrated with the proposed hike, some saying they're getting hit with inflation from every corner of the family budget. "You know, $120 a year -- that's a lot to a senior citizen and maybe one that the sole source of income is social security."
Aldermen have until the end of June to discuss the proposed water rate hike further. It's part of the overall city budget that is due by July 1st.
