
As inflation rises, so does the price of rent. But it's not as bad in St. Louis as other parts of the country.

In other major cities, a renter might pay $1,000 a month for a one-bedroom, or $1,700 for a two-bedroom. But in St. Louis, Real Estate investor Amy Gill of Checkmate Design says rents are relatively low.
I think the average rents are somewhere around $800 for a one-bedroom and $1,000 for a two-bedroom," Gill said. "So St. Louis' rent is really low. I mean, people in St. Louis need to understand we're probably one of the lowest places to rent in the country."
But Gill admits rents are up 20% here compared to four years ago. Rising costs for maintenance and insurance are among the factors pushing up rents.
