Businessman Mark Mantovani has been selected as the Republican nominee for St. Louis County Executive.

Mantovani takes the place of Katherine Pinner, who won the August primary after running a modest campaign, then later announced that she'd drop out.

Mantovani ran for County Executive as a Democrat in 2020, when he lost the primary to current County Executive Sam Page. He also lost to Steve Stenger in 2018, and is hoping for a better outcome as a Republican.

Mantovani joined Total Information AM to talk more about his run. He said that he's not satsified with the way things are going in the county, and that it's in a state of decline.

"Our population is stagnant and the economic base is lagging other communities, our homicide rate is surging, and our community remains among the most segregated in America," he said. "And I look around and I see a county government that doesn't even seem to be very interested in some of these things. It seems to have a lack of aggressiveness."
