Last year, detectives in Vancouver, Wash. conducted a welfare check after receiving concerned reports of a possible missing child.

At the time, the Vancouver Police Department was unable to locate Breadson John and reported him missing on June 17, 2022.

After exactly eight months of a search that involved both local authorities and the FBI, the boy was recovered last Friday -- in Missouri.

So far it is unclear how the 8-year-old ended up 1,800 miles away from his home or what he has been doing in Kansas City since last summer.

“Breadson’s recovery would not have been possible without the combined efforts of the Vancouver Police Department, FBI Kansas City, and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office,” the Seattle FBI’s Special Agent in Charge Richard A. Collodi said in a statement. “We are relieved at this outcome and how quickly we were able to resolve it.”

Representatives with Washington Child Protective Services will bring John back from Missouri to his home state.
