Missouri's Catholic bishops urge parishioners to vote no on recreational marijuana

The leaders of Missouri's four Roman Catholic dioceses issue a joint statement urging voters to reject Proposition Three -- which would legalize recreational marijuana in the state.

The bishops -- including St. Louis Archbishop Mitchell Rozanski say marijuana legalization would negatively impact Missouri families, health outcomes, communities and workers.

They say they are concerned the social costs of increased marijuana usage would outweigh any state revenues to be generated by a taxable marijuana industry -- and they fear allowing its use in people 21 and older sends the message to younger people that marijuana is safe and socially acceptable.

Amendment Three is on the November 8th ballot -- it needs only a simple majority for passage.
