HILLSBORO, MO (KMOX) - When Missouri expands the list of those who can receive a coronavirus vaccine on Monday, the Jefferson County Health Department will not be following suit.
County Health Department Spokesperson Brianne Zwiener says before the department adds more people to its waiting list, it wants to get through those already signed up. She says they've been playing catchup since the vaccines first became available in December.
"We had about 50,000 individuals who signed up just within a couple of weeks, that were interested," she says. "When we originally started we were getting shipments of 300 or 400, 500 vaccines a week. It takes a long time to chip away at a list of 50,000 individuals with that limited amount."
Zwiener says their shipments have been growing some, including a one-time shipment of 3,000 doess, but there are still almost 31,000 people on the list.
Jefferson County residents who are in the phase 1B–Tier 3 category will be able to register at other locations in the county, starting Monday.
