Natalia L. Jacquemin, 46, was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action on Aug. 27. She called St. Charles police the day before, around 11:30 p.m. and said she killed the boy, according to the charges.

"I slit his throat," she said, according to court documents. "I tried getting him away from his dad. I slit his neck. … I did it."

She also allegedly told a responding officer, "I just wanted him to rest in peace."

The child had a eight-inch laceration across his neck which caused muscle damage, police say. Where the attack occurred and what relationship she has to the child was not disclosed by police.
