Women in the Missouri Senate have come together for a common cause: Literacy.
The 11 women in the state Senate wrote a book that is being distributed to all the 4th grade classes in the state. Each of the 11 women tells their own story in the book.

Senator Karla May of St. Louis said the bipartisan project came naturally to the women.
"It wa easier for the women Senators because we just decided one night to go eat together," May said. "And out of that discussion a couple of women Senators had some ideas and everybody started chiming in on ideas."
The Senators are now touring each of their districts together, holding meetings about how to tackle illiteracy.
"We had mine at Harris-Stowe on Friday and we had a discussion talking about literacy but we mostly talked to the audience as well -- parents and teachers."
Senator May said the group will meet in October to go over what they learned on the tour, with the aim of creating legislation to improve literacy in Missouri.
