The plan would get rid of Missouri's one percent state tax on groceries. Sponsoring Representative Mary Elizabeth Coleman, "It might not seem like it's a lot of money -- 1% -- but the average Missouri family spends about 11% of their budget on grocery items."

Coleman says if you make $50,000 a year, that could add up to a savings of more than $500 a year on your grocery bill.

The bill has passed the House Ways and Means committee, and is headed for another committee. Coleman is optimistic it could become law this session.
