ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A 13-year-old armed with a gun was shot while he and another man attempted to steal a woman's vehicle in St. Louis Monday night, police say.

Police were called to the 5500 block of Natural Bridge in north St. Louis around 10:30 p.m. for a "hold up." They say a 37-year-old woman was walking from her car to her home when she was approached by the teen and another Black male suspect who asked if they could use her phone.
When she said she didn't have one, police say the 13-year-old pulled out a gun and demanded her car keys and money. She handed over her belongings and the other suspect tried to start her car, while the teen pointed his gun at her.
She then pulled her own gun when the teen became distracted and shot him, police say. The suspects both ran away.
Police say while investigating they were called to the 5500 block of Herbert, which was just about two blocks away, where the teenage suspect was found with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
He was remanded to the juvenile courts, police say. The other suspect, described as a Black male, 5'9", dark complexion, with long dreadlocks in a ponytail and wearing all dark clothing, was not in custody.
Last month, an 11-year-old boy and a boy estimated to be between 12- and 14-years-old were both involved in separate armed carjacking incidents in St. Louis.
