ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A 17-year-old was hospitalized after being shot while trying to steal a tip jar from a south St. Louis restaurant.
Police report the incident happened Thursday around 4 p.m. in the 1900 block of Utah Street. The teenager was conscious and breathing when police arrived.
The incident is described as an "assault," as police say the young man tried stealing a restaurant's tip jar and then assaulted a customer who tired to intervene. The teen was shot in the stomach.
Police say he was taken to an area hospital and the shooter is in custody.
