ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOX) - A woman has been arrested and charged with three felonies after stealing a Missouri State Highway Patrol vehicle, according to reports.
Heather Rene Nesler, 32, of St. Charles, was in handcuffs and inside the trooper's vehicle, then asked for the trooper to get her purse, police say. That's when she slipped out of the handcuffs and drove off in the vehicle, police say, after the trooper loosened her restraints when she said they were hurting her.
According to multiple reports, she was found by a St. Charles County sheriff's deputy inside a trash can in O'Fallon. She's been charged with tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and escaping from custody while under arrest.
Nesler was originally detained after the vehicle she was inside was pulled over for speeding on Saturday night around 7 p.m. in O'Fallon. She had several outstanding warrants, police say.
Police say she was in the front passenger seat with handcuff on when the trooper walked away to get her purse. She drove down I-70 with the car's emergency lights on and the trooper's loaded AR15 rifle behind her, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The vehicle was found about 20 minutes later with the engine running at a parking lot in O'Fallon. She was later arrested in the 700 block of Cole Street, police say.
