St. Louis gun owners react to Biden's plan | 'Our country is going to hell in a handbasket'

FENTON, Mo. (KMOX) - Gun owners in the St. Louis area are reacting to President Joe Biden's call for more restrictions on guns, after several recent mass shootings.

On the parking lot of Denny Dennis Sporting Goods, in Fenton, they weighed in. You can hear what they had to say in the audio at the top of this page.

"I believe that it should be difficult for Americans to own a gun."

"I believe our country is going to hell in a handbasket in the direction we're going right now."

"If a 'Red Dawn' scenario happened, people were jumping out of planes to take over our country, you're gonna need more than a handgun."

Some say it's a 2nd Amendment issue...

"It wasn't to keep us safe against theft or fellow citizens. It was for the purpose of defending against rogue governments. Which is where were starting to go."

"It's to defend ourselves against tyranny. Tyranny of the government for any country, they should have the right to carry arms."

"There should be some limitations and some hurdles that even the abiding citizen should have to go through in order to get a weapon."

Others says it's already too difficult to get ammunition, with supplies low and prices high for months.

What the President is proposing for now includes more restrictions on so-called "ghost guns" – which can be assembled from parts – and restrictions on gun braces that allow the shooter to have more accuracy.

Biden's proposals so far do not include a ban on assault weapons or universal background checks, things he advocated during the campaign.
