ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The owner of Crown Candy Kitchen says he has had a "stupid grin" on his face ever since Sunday night when Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger gave his restaurant an on-stage shoutout during their concert in St. Louis.
The owner of the 108-year-old business in north St. Louis, Andy Karandzieff, says when he opened the doors Monday morning, there was a line already outside with about 80% of people wearing Rolling Stones t-shirts, he said. It's all because Jagger said he had a BLT sandwich from there while he and the band were in town.
Video was shared of the shoutout on Twitter:
Karandzieff said he was already cooking 120-pounds of bacon that morning to prepare for the rush. That's eight cases more than he'd usually make on typical Monday.
"Mick and Nelly are some of the biggest guys to come through," Karandzieff says. "I don't feel like we get the big, huge celebrities just because we're that that big, flashy, fancy restaurant. We get the everyday person coming in. But to get a random shoutout by someone who comes to this city and that person to be Mick Jagger, that's pretty amazing."
He said Bill Murray once visited while he was shooting the movie "Larger Than Life" in the late 1990s. Karandzieff said after talking to Murray, he ordered 103 malts for the entire movie crew – which took a couple of hours to make.
