
ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - A 15-year-old boy from Illinois drowned Saturday afternoon in the Meramec River near Meramec Caverns.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KMOX News the teen was swimming near a beach when he was caught in swift water and went under. Officials have not released his identity.
According to Highway Patrol records, the teen is the third drowning victim in the region since mid-May. An 11-year-old drowned in the Big River May 23rd. The child was wearing a life jacket but got stuck on a log in the middle of the river. Another teenager, 17-year-old William Bergner, Jr. of Bourbon, Missouri died May 16th when he became exhausted trying to cross the Meramec River.
