ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A 16-year-old was shot in the neck while trying to buy a gun off a person on the street in St. Louis early Wednesday morning.
Police say they responded to a call for help around 1:19 a.m. and found the victim with a gunshot wound in the 7800 block of Tennesse Place in south St. Louis.
Police say the teen snuck out of his home to buy the gun from the suspect and at some point in the process was shot by the suspect. The suspect fled the scene, police said, adding no description of the suspect.
The victim was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.
Police say an investigation is ongoing.
More than 51 children in the St. Louis region have been injured or killed by gunfire this year.
