LAKE SAINT LOUIS (KMOX) - A St. Charles County woman is accused of stuffing bags of live sea creatures in her purse and stealing them from a lake Saint Louis pet store.
Megan Goste, 20, was charged with a felony count of stealing animals and a misdemeanor charge of stealing. Police say on July 2 she asked employees at Pet Land on 6131 Ronald Regan Drive to put two Halloween hermit crabs, a firefish and an anemone into bags. She allegedly told them she would be paying for them.
As that was happening, she grabbed some other animal products, stuffed the bags of sea creatures into her purse and walked out of the store. She was arrested two days later and admitted to the theft, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
All of one of the animals she took died, police say.
Police say the sea creatures were worth about $90 and the products were worth about $47.
