OLIVETTE, Mo. (KMOX/AP) — A woman who was inside a suburban St. Louis Starbucks is dead and several others are injured after a 78-year-old man’s sport utility vehicle crashed into the building.

The accident happened Saturday morning in Olivette. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the victim was 73-year-old Glenda Marie Simmons, a customer who stopped in briefly to pick up a latte. She was a longtime teacher who was named teacher of the year in University City’s school district for the 2005-2006 school year.

Police have not named the victim or the driver.

Since the accident, flowers have been laid on the ground outside the building.

Police Chief David Wolf says the investigation is ongoing and declined to say what may have led the driver to crash into the building. He did not say if the injured people were customers, employees or both.

Photos of the scene posted on Facebook shows the SUV well into the interior of the building, surrounded by shattered glass and broken furniture.
