Police say Michael Branlett, 75, of Gray Summit, was driving his Jeep Grand Cherokee east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 44 near Highway 141.

A semi swerved to avoid Branlett, but his SUV clipped the front of the tractor-trailer, causing the SUV to slam into the concrete median and bounce back onto the highway. That's when it hit another semi and a car, according to the accident report.

Branlett died at the scene. Two people in the car were treated at a hospital for minor injuries. The truck drivers were not injured.
