ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The University of Missouri announced Friday that the school's Board of Curators has passed a resolution for Mizzou Athletics to initiate renovations to Memorial Stadium, which will include the redevelopment of the stadium's North Concourse.
Mizzou announced that alongside the redevelopment of the North concourse, the school will also install a new expanded north videoboard with an upgraded sound system at Memorial Stadium for the 2024 season. The current videoboard has been in place since the 2009 season.
"As the Board of Curators continues to evaluate facility projects across the Mizzou Sports Park, this Memorial Stadium Project is an opportunity to capitalize on the momentum Mizzou Athletics has established and allows the university to strengthen one of our signature facilities," UM Board of Curators Chair Michael Williams said. "We look forward to working alongside campus leadership and Athletics to reshape the North Concourse and develop other needed improvements to Memorial Stadium."
Mizzou says that despite the renovations, the historic Rock M behind the north end zone will be preserved in its traditional place on Faurot Field.
"Memorial Stadium has been packed all season long with five straight sellouts and we look forward to the north end zone development along with other stadium improvements," said Mizzou Athletic Director Desiree Reed-Francois. "This is an important step forward for the overall experience for our fans, players and recruits on game day."
Mizzou plan's to renovate the North End Zone will be the second renovation the school has made on Memorial Stadium over the last couple years. Most recently, the school renovated the stadium's South End Zone, with addition of the South End Zone complex in 2019.
The new complex, which costed $98 million at the time included new team and staff locker rooms, an enhanced sports medicine facility featuring a Hydrotherapy area with recovery pools, Hyroworx and lap pools, a weight room twice the size of the one at MATC, nutrition oasis and equipment room, as well as team and position meeting rooms, and coaches' offices.
Plans for the full project and budget will be presented to the board by its April 18 2024 meeting.
