A pickup truck slammed into a crowd at the start of a pride parade in Wilton Manners, Florida, killing one and leaving another seriously injured on Saturday night, according to authorities.

The incident was confirmed on Twitter by Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, who was at the Stonewall Pride Parade event with U.S. Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Ted Deutch. They also said that the driver had been taken into custody.

Of the two people hit, one has been hospitalized, and the other died of injuries, authorities said, according to The Associated Press. Several local news outlets reported that the victims were taken to Broward Health Medical Center, according to USA Today.

Joey Spears, a 25-year-old at the parade, saw the truck drive into the crowd talked with USA Today about the incident. Spears captured a video of the aftermath that showed a person on the ground.

“All of a sudden, I see this truck peel out and just going through the people,” Spears said to USA Today.

Spears said that he was cornered off by police at a local high school parking lot, with the group he was with, for about an hour before they were allowed to leave the area. That was when they started marching.

The group still walked through the parade unofficially, Spears said, as they did not want anything to stop their pride from being expressed.

As of right now, it is not known whether or not the attack was deliberate. However, Chris Caputo, a city commissioner in Wilton Manors, took to Twitter, saying it seems “increasingly probable it was an accident.”

However, Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis told WSVN-TV the driver accelerated into the crowd, describing the incident as a deliberate attack on the LGBTQ community.

Caputo took to Twitter today, stating that there would be a vigil held for the person who died tonight at 6 p.m.
