As the midterm elections grow near, the question of who will be on the ballot in 2024 when the presidency is back up for grabs continues to loom, but a new poll has found a majority of Republicans want the party to run it back.

The USA Today/Ipsos poll found that 59% of Republican voters want former President Donald Trump to be the nominee in 2024, while 41% say they want to see a change in the party.

While most respondents showed they wanted to see the former president regain his seat, follow-up interviews from USA Today found concerns over how the president acts and his age.

Tyler Geyer, a 35-year-old mail carrier from West Virginia, shared that while Trump did things he liked, he "would like somebody from a younger generation to run the country and someone who's maybe not so bombastic."

The poll also found that 9 out of 10 Republican voters found Trump to be a leader who "is willing to use all the tools at his disposal to get things done."

But, while 87% think Trump fights for those he represents and 86% say he fights woke culture and corporations, he dropped to 70% for those who believe he is "focused on bringing the country together and finding compromise."

Regarding who voters would like to see running across the aisle, Democrats seem to be split on whether or not President Joe Biden should be given the Democratic nomination. The poll found that only 44% think he "deserves reelection," and 56% do not want him to run again.

While Democrats think Biden has experience and expertise as a government official, only 65% think he is an effective communicator and campaigner. Moreover, when asked if they thought he would win running for reelection in 2024, only 60% thought it was possible.

But faith in the president depends on a number of factors, as younger voters and women are less optimistic about Biden than their counterparts. For example, only 53% of Democratic voters under 35 say Biden would win if he ran in 2024.

And continuing the divide between party lines, 82% of Republicans say that if Trump ran in 2024, he would win the election.

The poll was conducted online from Aug. 18-22 and included responses from 2,345 adults. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
