President Joe Biden called Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy a "stupid son of a bi**h" on Monday after he asked Biden a question about inflation.
The hot mic caught him saying the phrase during a White House event on the Biden administration efforts to combat inflation.
Biden had complained that all of the press questions were about the military buildup around Ukraine.
Doocy then shouted out, “Will you take questions about inflation? Do you think inflation is a political liability ahead of the midterms?”
“No, that’s a great asset. More inflation... What a stupid son of a bi**h," Biden said into the microphone he assumed was off.
It's not uncommon for Doocy to shout out questions and try to catch Biden off guard during press events.
It's also not the first time that Biden has sworn on a hit mic.
Both the White House and Fox News communications did not immediately respond to requests for comments by CNBC, although the New York Times later reported that Biden called Doocy personally and 'cleared the air.'
Inflation reached its highest levels since 1982, with consumer prices jumping 7% in 2021. The White House has struggled communicating with the public about the efforts to bring prices down in the long-term, as supply chain issues stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic continue to affect the United States.
