Now that conservative prime-time host Tucker Carlson has parted ways with Fox News, should he set his sights on the White House?
Definitely -- if you ask Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. He thinks the former Fox News host would make a "good addition" to the 2024 presidential race.
In an interview with Politico, Ramaswamy, who announced his candidacy in February, said he believes Carlson throwing his name in would be "good for the country."
"I think he'd be a good addition to the race. I think someone should only do this if they feel called to do it, but I think it'd be good for the country if he got in, to be honest with you," Ramaswamy said.
The entrepreneur went on to call Carlson "one of the smartest voices in the conservative movement."
"There's definitely a thought leadership vacuum in political media, across the political spectrum. And Tucker was one of the great political thinkers and commentators of our time," he said.
It's not clear if Carlson has presidential aspirations. He also has yet to comment on his departure from Fox News after being with the network since 2009.
Fox News announced Monday that effective immediately, Carlson -- the network's most-watched host -- was no longer with the company following a mutual decision to part ways.
"Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways," a statement from the network said, without offering any further explanation. "We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor."
Carlson's departure came nearly one week after Fox reached a $787.5 million settlement agreement with Dominion Voting Systems in a defamation lawsuit. Dominion was seeking $1.6 billion in damages over claims that Fox, among other things, falsely reported its voting machines were "rigged" and switched millions of votes from Donald Trump to Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
