Whether it be “Meatball Ron,” “Ron DeSanctimonious,” or “Ron DisHonest,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says he isn’t taking former President Donald Trump’s insults to heart.

During an interview with Piers Morgan, set to air on Thursday, DeSantis talked about the schoolyard nicknames being used by the former president, saying he actually “kind of” likes them.

“I don’t know how to spell the sanctimonious one. I don’t really know what it means, but I kinda like it, it’s long, it’s got a lot of vowels,” DeSantis said. “We’ll go with that, that’s fine.”

DeSantis, who is expected to announce his campaign for the presidency soon, has been a constant target from Trump, as the two are the likely favorites in the Republican nominee race.

“I mean, you can call me whatever you want, just as long as you also call me a winner, because that’s what we’ve been able to do in Florida, is put a lot of points on the board and really take this state to the next level,” DeSantis said.

Trump has levied several jabs at DeSantis, starting before the 2022 midterm elections when he began using “DeSanctimonious” when referring to the Florida Republican.

Most recently, Trump posted a video on his social media platform, Truth Social, where he alleged that DeSantis didn’t do anything to make his state great.

“For those of you that didn’t notice, Florida was doing great long before Ron DeSanctus got there. People are fleeing from New York to Florida and other places because of high taxes and out-of-control crime – it’s really bad – not because of the governor,” Trump remarked. “You had a governor named Rick Scott, who did a very good job. Even Charlie Crist – a Democrat – did a good job, and he had very good numbers. Sunshine and ocean are very alluring. It’s not too hard to work with those factors. So just remember, Florida was doing really well long before Ron DeSanctus got there.”

Other nicknames Trump has used to try and discredit his potential adversary include “Ron DeSanctus,” “Ron DeEstablishment,” and “Tiny D.” Nonetheless, DeSantis says he isn’t worried.

“To me, it’s just background noise,” DeSantis said. “It’s not important for me to be fighting with people on social media. It’s not accomplishing anything for the people I represent.”
