A Tennessee man is has been charged with second-degree murder after he allegedly killed another man when the two got into a fight over tools on Friday, authorities reported.

Last year, Michael W. Greene, 55, had reported that tools were stolen from his home. However, there had been no sight of the tools until last week when Greene’s neighbor, Justin McKee, had found tools he believed to be Greenes while cleaning his house.

Wanting to get the tools back to him, McKee called Greene and told him to come and get them. Everything was fine until Friday when McKee found more tools and called Greene again, The Citizen Tribune reported.

However, the return wasn’t easy this time, as the two men began arguing over which tools belonged to who.

The confrontation turned violent when McKee allegedly used a sledgehammer to hit Greene in the chest, causing its head to break off. Once it did, McKee reportedly tried to stab Greene with it multiple times.

After failing to stab him, McKee picked up an aluminum bat and hit Greene over the head numerous times while he was on the ground motionless. McKee then went to a neighbor’s house, and the neighbor contacted the police.

Greene was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where they attempted life-saving measures. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:30 p.m.

According to Det. Sgt. Jim Brooks with the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Department said the investigation into the altercation is ongoing.

McKee is being held and charged with second-degree murder.
