Former New York City mayor and attorney to Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, has become the target of a criminal investigation in Georgia focused on Trump’s campaign efforts to overturn the state’s 2020 election results, according to a report.
The report from The New York Times says that Giuliani will testify in the trial. But he's not just testifying, his attorney said, as he's also been informed he's a target in the probe.
A prosecutor from the Fulton County District Attorney’s office called Giuliani’s Georgia counsel on Monday to inform him that Giuliani is now considered a target of their investigation, said Bob Costello, counsel for Giuliani.
“This comes on the heels of us asking him probably six or seven times” whether Giuliani was a target, Costello said, adding the district attorney’s office previously declined to answer that question -- until they did answer.
Costello also noted to the Times that Giuliani would use attorney-client privilege to refuse to comment on any conversations he had with Trump.
“If these people think he’s going to talk about conversations between him and President Trump, they’re delusional,” Costello told the Times.
Giuliani is considered by many experts to be one of the top conspirators for Trump following the election in 2020. He continuously appeared before groups pushing the stolen election narrative and before panels of state lawmakers in Georgia demanding the election results be turned in Trump’s favor.
