Former President Donald Trump is facing legal trouble on a number of different fronts, and as many as three indictments could be coming soon. For context, even one would be a first for a former Commander-in-Chief.
However, while Trump’s repeated claims that he is being persecuted over his politics and beliefs have failed to sway a majority of Americans overall, he has found a sympathetic ear among fellow Republicans. Very sympathetic.
In a new poll released Monday and conducted by Marist, over 80% of Republicans are buying what Trump is selling when it comes to his claims of being the subject of multiple “witch hunts.”
Only 18% of Republicans polled responded that they thought the criminal probes are unbiased.
Among the prosecutions Trump may be facing soon:
- A New York grand jury is examining whether alleged hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels over an alleged tryst with Trump were unlawfully paid from campaign funds.
- A Georgia probe is underway concerning Trump’s phone conversations with that state’s officials over his allegations of a stolen Presidential election in 2020.
- A federal probe is examining Trump’s handling of classified documents which were recovered from unsecure locations within the former President’s Florida Mar-a-Lago residence only after an FBI search of the premises.
When zoomed out to all Americans though, 56% of all Americans do believe the investigations are fair, a number which includes 87% of Democrats and 51% of independents along with the aforementioned 18% of Republicans.
Further, 46% of all Americans believe Trump has done something illegal. Another 29% say they believe Trump did something “unethical but not illegal.”
