While speculation surrounds former President Donald Trump's potential run for office again in 2024, he reportedly has told close confidants that he anticipates returning to the Oval Office as president this summer.

New York Times correspondent Maggie Haberman tweeted that Trump has told several "people he’s in contact with that he expects he will get reinstated” as president by August.

Haberman's reporting came in response to murmurs of an alleged Myanmar-style coup suggested by right-wing conservatives and Q'Anon believers.

The notion the former president could reclaim the top spot in the Executive Branch is being propagated by his most allegiant supporters. At the “For God & Country Patriot Roundup” conference in Dallas over the weekend, former Trump attorney Sidney Powell told the crowd Trump could "simply be reinstated," Newsweek reports.

Former national security advisor Michael Flynn, who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI but received a pardon from Trump, also attended the conference and can be seen on video telling the audience a coup "should happen here."

On Monday, Flynn claimed media outlets had mischaracterized his taped comments.

Not all of Trump’s vocal surrogates agree he could unseat Biden and be named president again. Jenna Ellis, another former member of Trump’s legal team, noted on Twitter that the Constitution only provides one method for removing an incumbent president: impeachment and conviction. “No, President Trump is not going to be ‘reinstated,’” Ellis wrote.

Maggie Haberman also reported Trump is "laser-focused" on voting audits, like the ongoing review happening in Arizona's Maricopa County.

Trump's alleged reinstatement claim comes as the Manhattan District Attorney's office considers a possible indictment against the former president concerning his company.
