ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The founder of Home Depot has made a big splash in the race for the 2022 U.S. Senate seat in Missouri. Bernie Marcus has reportedly put $1 million behind former Gov. Eric Greitens.

This is the not the first time Marcus has donated to a Greitens campaign. According to Fox News, Marcus gave the massive donation to Missouri First Action so the political organization could produce media supporting Greitens.
Brandon Wear, a spokesman for Missouri First Action gave a statement to Fox News, saying in part:
"Mr. Marcus’ generous contribution shows the broad support behind Eric Greitens. With Americans suffering amid crisis after crisis brought on by the reckless, far-left policies of Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden, putting Missouri -and America- first has never been more important.
"As Governor, Eric Greitens proved himself to be a conservative outsider capable of delivering results for the Show-Me State. Now, running to serve as the next Senator from Missouri, he stands head and shoulders above the rest of the field, and Missouri First Action stands ready to support him."
Marcus also donated at least $175,000 to Greitens' campaign for Missouri governor back in 2016, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.
It comes just days after a federal elections watchdog group filed another complaint against former Greitens. They claim $100,000 from his old gubernatorial campaign was illegally spent on kickstarting his current. campaign.
State campaign funds cannot be used for federal campaigns. Greitens’ responded to the Campaign Legal Center complaint, saying "no gubernatorial campaign funds were used for the Senate campaign."
The former Navy Seal is running for the spot that will be open next year following the retirement of Sen. Roy Blunt. Greitens is making his return to the political stage after resigning as Missouri governor in June 2018.
He was indicted on federal charges of computer tampering, but all charged were later dropped. He also admitted to having an affair with his hairstylist, after she claimed he was blackmailing and sexually assaulted her. He and his wife of nine years divorced in 2020.
