CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- At least a couple of suburban mayors are publicly expressing their displeasure with Governor Pritzker’s order in some counties for restaurants to stop indoor dining.
Itasca’s Mayor Jeff Pruyn said Tuesday in his State of the Village Address that Governor Pritzker’s administration has found ways to keep schools, casinos, and entertainment venues open, but that he’s asking restaurant owners to turn their backs on their employees and the communities they serve.
Mayor Pruyn said he’s written a letter to the governor asking him to lift his ban on indoor dining. He said he stands with restaurant owners who are barely making it.
Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau said the metrics the governor is now using to end indoor dining are ludicrous.
"The governor continues to move the goalposts. This is about control and power, and not science and data," he said.
He points to the fact that indoor dining at restaurants re-started in late June.
"The recent rise in cases did not occur until four full months later which indicates that the rise in cases has nothing to do with restaurant openings or we would have seen those increases four months ago," Pekau said.
He said Orland Park will not enforce the governor’s order. In fact, he said, at the next board meeting, he’ll be proposing a “Dine Orland” program to encourage people to visit Orland Park restaurants.
