SIKESTON, Mo. (KMOX) - An electric company says outages have been reported recently due to people shooting at doves on power lines around southeast Missouri.

The SEMO Electric Cooperative told KFVS there have been 10 occurrences since the start of September of broadband outages because bullets are hitting their fiber optic cables. They says repairs have cost about $10,000 per incident and have been interrupting the community's services.
"The data that does flow, that could be e-911 telephone services, that could be a work from home. This year especially, a student that needs to be home doing homework. Those outages again range from about four to our longest one, about 10 hours," said SEMO Electric Cooperative Fiber Services Manager Loyd Rice.
Dove hunting season in Missouri runs from Sept. 1 through Nov. 29.
Rice hopes to spread the word so people know to not shoot towards the utility lines.
