The body of a 6-year-old boy was found buried under a home’s hallway floor on Friday. According to local police, the home belonged to the boy’s mother.

Arkansas police made the discovery in the town of Moro at 11 p.m. last Friday, according to a release from the Arkansas Department of Public Safety. According to the release, police believe the boy's body was there for some time.

“Based on initial findings, it’s believed the boy died from injuries sustained in the home, possibly three months ago,” the release said.

The boy’s sister, who is also 6 years old, was found abused inside the home. She was taken to the hospital for medical attention after burns were discovered on her scalp.

The child’s mother, Ashley Roland, 28, was arrested and charged with capital murder, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Also arrested was 33-year-old Nathan Bridges, who was not identified on the release but is believed to be Roland’s boyfriend, according to a friend of the children’s grandmother. He was also charged with the same charges.

A GoFundMe page started by Anita Widby, who says she is a friend of the children’s grandmother, Karen, states that she has been attempting to get custody of them for more than a year.

According to the page, Karen was afforded a court-ordered visitation to see the children on the weekends.

“She showed up to get her grandchildren … Friday and was told the youngest was at a friend’s house, and the oldest couldn’t walk,” Widby wrote.

After seeing her granddaughter’s condition, Karen reportedly took her to the hospital, where they found she was malnourished and had cracked ribs, along with the burns on her scalp.

“These injuries are presumed to be from her mother and the mother’s boyfriend,” Widby said of Roland and Bridges.

While at the hospital, police notified Karen that her grandson’s body had been found in the home.

An autopsy from the state medical examiner is expected to be held within the coming weeks, determining exactly how the boy died.
