ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - UT Arlington president Vistasp Karbhari is resigning immediately rather than wait until August as originally planned.

The UT System Chancellor released a statement last night saying, in part, "I commend him on the difficult decision to step down now so the university can devote its full attention to the important issues at hand."

Karbhari had been under pressure from staff and faculty because of what they describe as a culture of retaliation and bullying.

There was also a UT System audit describing irregularities in on-line course enrollment at UTA.

Earlier this month, Karbhari withdrew from consideration to become the President at the University of Central Florida.
