Joe Kelley is an award-winning radio host and storyteller joining KRLD from Orlando, Florida, where he held a similar position at WDBO. His distinctive voice and engaging style resonated with listeners, making him a beloved figure in the local radio scene.
Returning to Dallas feels like a homecoming for Joe. In the early 2000s, he graced the Dallas airwaves as a radio host on KLIF and later WBAP. Now, he’s back to share his insights and stories with the KRLD audience, on weekday mornings from 5 to 10.
Joe’s radio career started in Southeast Texas, where he discovered his passion for broadcasting as a 15-year-old high school student in Beaumont. From Bryan-College Station to Houston and San Antonio and back to DFW, he has left an indelible mark on Texas radio. The National Association of Broadcasters honored Joe as the ‘Large Market Personality of the Year’ in 2018. His ability to connect with listeners during critical moments showcases his journalistic excellence. Joe’s reporting spans national and international events, including the 9/11 terror attacks, the Pulse Nightclub terror attack in Orlando, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. His dedication to informing and engaging the community remains unwavering.
Joe and his wife Ronni Sue will grow their family this year with their impending adoption of a teenage girl from foster care in Florida, Joe’s 5th child. Their commitment to family shines through both on and off the air. Joe’s resilience extends beyond the microphone. He has triumphed over cancer diagnoses, including stage 4 Hodgkin’s Disease during his teenage years and a rare, chronic leukemia. His strength inspires us all. Inspired in large part by his own teenage cancer experience, Joe launched an annual fundraiser for Make-A-Wish nearly 20 years ago. This campaign has raised, to date, more than 3 million dollars. Joe actively participates in his church community, finding solace and purpose in faith.
Joe’s remarkable journey from Southeast Texas to the Dallas-Fort Worth airwaves is a testament to his passion, resilience, and unwavering commitment to storytelling. As he continues to captivate audiences, we eagerly await the next chapter in his broadcasting legacy.
