DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Mavericks will likely be without their head coach, Rick Carlisle, for their matchup with the New York Knicks after he tested positive COVID-19 on Friday morning.

Carlisle announced his positive test to the media just one hour before tip off, as Kristaps Porzingis attempts to get his first win over his former team since being traded to the Knicks in the 2018-19 season.

Carlisle, who became fully vaccinated in January, still has hope that he could suit up and coach on Friday, however, should the test result come back as a false positive.

"I had an unexpected positive test," Carlisle said. There's a chance and a hope that it will be a false-positive."

Should Carlisle's result come back as a true positive, and he is unable to coach, assistant Jamahl Mosely has been instructed to take his place as the lead man on the sidelines.

The Mavs and Knicks are set to tip off 6:30 pm CT on NBA TV
