A traffic incident turned into an immigration bust when Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a broken-down semitrailer on Friday morning.

The back of the big rig stalled on a Texas highway was discovered to contain about 100 migrant workers who are suspected to have crossed into the U.S. illegally.

About 63 of the workers and the truck’s driver were taken into custody. About 40 migrants are suspected to still be at-large after many of the workers ran off on foot upon being discovered, taking cover in nearby brush and cornfields.

The discovery was made about 90 miles southwest of Houston. The U.S. Border Patrol is processing those who did enter America illegally and were apprehended, according to Jackson County Sheriff Kelly Janica.
